About This Event

Vascular Inflammation at the Crossroads of Health and Disease is the 76th Annual Meeting of the British Microcirculation and Vascular Biology Society (BMVBS), taking place at the University of Birmingham from 22–24 April 2026. The meeting will bring together researchers from across the UK and beyond to explore the full spectrum of microcirculatory and vascular biology, from endothelial and immune cell interactions, angiogenesis and barrier function, to mechanotransduction, ageing, co-morbidities, and therapeutic innovation.

While inflammation provides a unifying theme, the programme will encompass basic, translational and clinical research across all aspects of the microcirculation in health and disease.

Scientific sessions will feature international and UK leaders presenting the latest advances in vascular function, imaging, and molecular regulation, alongside talks selected from abstract submissions. The meeting includes oral and poster sessions, networking activities, and a dedicated Early Career Researcher Day focused on skills development and mentoring. In keeping with the Society’s ethos, BMVBS 2026 will be an inclusive, affordable, and scientifically rigorous forum that showcases the diversity and vitality of microvascular research and supports the next generation of investigators.

The meeting

The 2026 Annual Meeting will take place over two immersive days at the Edgbaston Park Hotel on the University of Birmingham campus. The hotel is an accessible, modern venue with excellent conference facilities. Delegates can expect a diverse scientific programme spanning fundamental microvascular physiology,  endothelial  signalling, imaging technologies, translational models and clinical perspectives. While broad in scope, this year’s meeting will weave a unifying theme of vascular inflammation throughout plenary lectures, symposia and selected short communications.

In addition to invited talks, the programme will feature abstract‑driven oral and poster sessions, early‑career presentations, prize competitions and ample networking time over refreshment breaks and a conference dinner. Exhibitors and sponsors will be positioned at the heart of delegate traffic, offering prime opportunities to showcase products, forge collaborations and gain visibility with leading investigators and emerging talent in UK vascular research

Getting here

Edgbaston Park Hotel is located on the main University of Birmingham campus.

By Rail:

Most cross-country services to Birmingham arrive at New Street Station. Up to six trains an hour depart for the University on the cross-city line (ten minutes to University station, final destination Bromsgrove or Redditch). The hotel is a 10 to 15 minute walk from the station, depending on whether you take the scenic route through our Green Heart. A walking map will be available on the conference app to help you navigate.

By Bus:

Numbers X20, X21 and X22 travel from a number of stops in and around the city centre and surrounding area, and stop at Westmere (stop name). This stop is on the road directly outside the hotel.

There is a travel information office outside New Street Station, where you can obtain bus timetables and departure point information. Maps can be found throughout the city centre indicating bus stop locations. You can also access Network West Midlands' Live Travel Map for current rail and bus information.

By Car:

Parking is available for hotel visitors outside the hotel itself. In addition to the outdoor parking outside of the hotel, the adjacent multistory car park has the bottom level dedicated for use by hotel visitors. You will need to ensure that you enter your registration number on the terminal inside the hotel, or you may receive a ticket.

Taxis:

Birmingham is served by all major taxi apps, and taxi from the city centre (e.g. Birmingham New Street) to the hotel should cost you around £7.

Accomodation

Edgbaston Park Hotel, where the conference is being held, has a significant number of rooms that can be booked online. You can find more information about the hotel here: https://www.edgbastonparkhotel.com.

We have a small number of rooms available with the Hotel at a discounted rate, when compared to the standard rate. These are first come first served, and will be available on the booking system until all of the rooms have sold out. You can add these to your registration during the sign up process.

Across from the hotel is Peter Scott House, which is a Univeristy hotel and is bookable via Expedia, Trivago, Booking.com, and many other sites. The rate is, at the time of writing, £80 per night. You can find this hotel here: https://expe.app.link/jqP5qdah9Yb

Beyond the conference centre and immediate vicinity, there are a huge number number of hotels in and around the local area. Most hotel chains have a presence in the city centre and are a short walk from public transport which connects directly outside the hotel.

The following hotels are in the city centre, offer good value rooms, and are very close to transport links which can get you to the venue:

  • Travelodge: Birmingham Central Bull Ring; Birmingham Central Moor Street
Very close to transport links, including buses and trains. Note, University station is not served by trains from Moor Street, although many buses stop outside.

  • Premier Inn Birmingham City Centre, New Street Station
Close to New Street Station, which runs direct trains the University.

  • ibis Budget Birmingham
Good value hotel rooms, and a small distance from the University. The 61 and 63 buses stop on the other side of the road to the hotel, and these buses bring you to the outer edge of campus. It is an approximate 5 minute walk from there to the hotel.

  • easyHotel Birmingham
Good value rooms, close to buses and trains.

There are many, many others to choose from though!

Abstract Submissions
Abstract submissions are currently open!

Deadline: Monday, February 9, 2026 at 11:59 PM

Submission Guidelines

Abstracts should be no more than 250 words. They can take the form of either a single piece of narrative text, or can be divided into Introduction, Methods, Results, and Conclusions. One presenting author should be identified per abstract.

Work must be original and not published in a peer-reviewed journal at the time of submission - prior presentation at local meetings, or other conferences is fine. Accepted abstracts will be published in the meeting booklet, in a designated journal (Microcirculation) and on the BMVBS website unless you specifically opt out on submission.

Upon submission, you should choose your preferred presentation type. Accepted abstracts not selected for oral presentation will be considered for poster presentation.

All abstracts will be reviewed and evaluated by independent reviewers in accordance with a set scoring criteria.

  • Title is required
  • Author information is required
  • Affiliations are required
  • Abstract must not exceed 300 words
  • Abstract must be at least 100 words
